The Connections Program is a psycho-educational cognitive change program that serves offenders with intellectual disabilities housed in Oregon prisons.
Research shows that programs like Connections work because:
- It addresses risk factors associated with criminal behavior
- Program delivery is in a manner consistent with learning needs of individuals with cognitive impairments
- It emphasizes identification and modification of cognitive distortions and criminal lifestyle patterns that lead to criminal behavior
The curriculum is available for purchase and use in other institutional and non-institutional settings. Facilitator manuals contain lesson plans and background information for easy implementation of the program. See Curriculum & Consultation for details.
